The School Board of Colonial Heights Public Schools invites applications and nominations for the position of Superintendent.

The City

Colonial Heights, located in southeastern Virginia, is situated 20 miles south of Richmond, Virginia's state capital, and 120 miles south of the nation's capital. Colonial Heights lies where the Tidewater plain meets the Piedmont plateau. The city is bordered by Petersburg to the south, the Appomattox River to the east, and Chesterfield County to the north. The city's location within the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area provides access to the area's dynamic business complex, and its proximity to Fort Gregg Adams makes it a major employer in the Tri-Cities area.

The Division

Mission: Colonial Heights Public Schools, in partnership with the home and the community, will provide each student with a relevant, quality education. The skills taught shall enable each student to become a self-sufficient, productive member of the global society prepared to enter the job market and/or continue his/her education.

Qualifications

The school board has established the following qualifications for the next superintendent of Colonial Heights Public Schools:

  • Teaching and experience in public school administration is required.

  • Experience as a central office administrator is required.

  • Experience as a superintendent or associate/assistant superintendent is preferred.

  • An earned doctorate degree is preferred.

  • Experience and success in building community relationships.

Candidates must provide a 250-word statement regarding the achievements and challenges of Colonial Heights Public Schools and your vision for the school system.

Expectations of a successful candidate include:

  • Consistent presence in the schools, school activities, and the community

  • Effective advocacy on behalf of the school division

  • Effective communication with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders

  • Extensive knowledge of instruction, finance, and human resources
